I highly recommend using Cisco IOS images that are recommended by the GNS3 team. Additionally we will be using Security Onion 16.04, Kali 2018.1 (the latest one is fine, 2018.1 is just what I had around), and the latest Metasploitable. It is very easy to get a hold of them this way, and I don’t know of a network team that would say no if you ask for an IOS image to learn on in a Virtualized environment instead of a production one! The route images I will be using today are the 3640 () and the 7200 (7.bin). However, I will implore you to take the almost as easy, legal method, ask your network team! Cisco offers most all IOS images on their business support portal. I’m sure most of you have at some point downloaded something that was less than legally shared, and I will say they can be found that way if you are willing. Yes ,Cisco is indeed a for profit business and the IOS images are their product so they can restrict it’s distribution as they see fit. So if you tried to find some after reading my last post, you may have noticed that Cisco IOS images are somewhat hard to acquire for the average Joe. So for the past two posts I have teased a GNS3 project, well the day has finally arrived that we will be setting it up!
